Getting started
What is Tapasi SmartEdge?
A platform where your business and Tapas agree a Plan of Record, and your named person approves each revision. Edge boxes at your premises pull their agent code, and what may leave is set out in your onboarding terms. The Ontology Guide explains how it is put together.
Do I need to sign an NDA to start?
No. The onboarding terms are written so that you can start working toward an outcome without a Non-Disclosure Agreement. The wording is in clause 1 of the onboarding terms.
What happens when I accept the onboarding terms?
When you accept, you also answer a few yes or no questions and declare your time zone. After that, a Plan of Record sets the outcome, and your named person approves each revision. No outcome needs to be agreed before you start.
Access does not run out: it ends only when you or Tapas end it, and you can end it at any time.
Cost
Do I have to pay anything?
No. Neither the onboarding terms nor the Plan of Record creates a payment obligation, now or later. Each period, Tapas drafts a statement of the value delivered and your named person confirms or corrects it. After confirmed outcomes, you decide whether to enter a commercial agreement. See clause 7 of the onboarding terms.
What happens when I confirm an outcome?
Tapas drafts a statement for each period, and your named person confirms or corrects it. It is then recorded and measured against your baseline. Confirming a statement does not start any payment. The decision whether to enter a commercial agreement stays with you.
The Ontology Guide shows the two tracks side by side.
Your data and control
Does my data leave my premises?
Your data stays on your premises. What may be shared is agreed when you onboard. Only items you choose from Tapas's catalogue leave, and only as values, never images, video, audio or free text. No data of yours reaches Tapas, not even for testing. Clause 6 of the onboarding terms covers what is shared.
Can Tapas act without my approval?
No. Tapas drafts every alert, and a named person at your business releases it. Nothing runs on its own. Where something must be filed or paid to an authority, Tapas drafts it and your named person files and pays.
Do you ever need my passwords or logins?
No. The logins you hold for your own accounts and portals are never shared with Tapas. Tapas never asks for them, receives them, holds them or stores them. Where a filing or a payment is needed, your own named person makes it.
Who is the “named person”?
A person at your business, named for your business relationship, who is authorised to act for it on the platform: for example to approve a new revision of the plan, release an alert, confirm an outcome or end access. Tapas does not decide these things for you.
Who at Tapas can see my information?
People see only what their assigned business relationships have agreed may be seen.
What if a report or alert is wrong?
You verify each report after the event. If one proves inaccurate, Tapas and your business find the cause and fix it together, at no charge. Each template is also monitored for drift.
Can I stop at any time?
Yes. Either party may end access at any time, and it takes effect within 24 hours. You need no reason; Tapas always states its reason. Tapas purges the data, credentials and cached state it holds within 24 hours of the moment access ends, records proof of the purge, leaves your own records with you, resolves any equipment on your premises as clause 3 sets out, and provides a closure report. Clause 8 of the onboarding terms covers ending access.
Equipment and network
Do I need special hardware?
Only if the outcome needs extra physical equipment. Tapas installs and maintains equipment it owns; equipment you provide stays yours, and Tapas runs it under the same terms (clause 3 of the onboarding terms).
One edge box is enough to start.
Do I need to open ports on my network?
The design does not require inbound ports to be opened on your premises. Each edge box is designed to connect outward for its instructions, with a firewall that blocks inbound traffic. Clause 12 of the onboarding terms says what is not built yet. Tapas's control plane manages your box; the global platform never connects to it directly. See how a business relationship is set up.
About the platform
What is a Plan of Record?
The agreed plan for one part of your business. It is made of signed revisions. Only one is in force at a time, a change applies from a future date and never a past one, and earlier revisions stay on record. Each agent action is linked once to the revision in force when it happened. Read more in The Plan of Record.
What does “In progress” mean in the guide?
It marks a rule that is in force, where parts of its enforcement are not built yet.
Is the SmartEdge core open source?
The SmartEdge agent templates are licensed open-source under the Apache License 2.0. What that means for you is set out in clause 4 of the onboarding terms.
